[ Things hadn't gone all that well the last time they'd camped out in a forest together, but thankfully this particular mission was going - mostly - according to plan.
This side of the planet was mostly uninhabited, and the bulk of the crew they'd brought were from medical looking to collect plants for healing studies. Sara and Leonard had stolen away on a walk by the lake under the thinly-veiled guise of seeking out shelter for the night, the clouds low and gray in the sky.
When they're far enough away from the crew, Sara slips her hand into Leonard's, glancing up as a roll of thunder rumbles in the distance. ]
Damn. They'll try and call us back soon, if it starts raining. [ She glances over at him, cocking a brow and switching her comm link off. ] Too bad we're out of range, huh?
[ Spock takes a deeeeeeep breath... and releases it.
His relationship with Dr. McCoy is an interesting one. The jabs and annoyances they send to each other is something Spock actually enjoys, and he gathers that the doctor is of a similar mind. But sometimes, those annoyances are less enjoyable.
Like now. ]
Doctor, I assure you once again that due to my unique physiology, I will recover from this illness at three times the rate of an average human. [ Never mind that that's a Vulcan statistic, which he's only half of, and that his voice comes out a little raw and nasally. Spock is not unaware of these, just like how he's pale and has a bit of temp. He just ignores them. ]
While I will admit that my physical performance has perhaps lessened by 3.48% at most- [ -at best- ] -my compacity for tasks of the mind is still at peak performance. Therefore, I see no reason for me to be off-duty. Will you please return my PADD now?
[ Let's be perfectly honest here, Leonard definitely didn't come on this mission just to get a date away from the ship with Sara, but the fact that they get just a bit of time to spend on their own, even if it might only be for a short walk, is a plus. The mission's going well, nothing so far from him to worry about, and he's holding hands with a pretty woman. He can hardly think of things to complain about.
Well, for now anyway. Give him time.
That sound of thunder certainly gets him a little worried, though Sara's little comment, followed by her turning her comm link off, makes him chuckle. ]
Seems like going to too great lengths just to get me all to yourself, don't you think?
[ True to word, Leonard's at the deck a couple of hours later, having claimed two of the seats with a small table between them. There's a bottle and glasses, and a little container with salty snacks, just in case either of them feel like having some. ]
[ Their relationship is indeed a source of frustration and Dr. Leonard McCoy will take absolutely none of the blame for it. He knows Spock likes to be difficult with him just because, maybe he even enjoys it secretly, hell if he has any idea why he likes to frustrate him to no end.
But by God, does he. Goddamn bastard always leaving him at wits' end. Luckily, this is one situation where he's got the upper hand, in the sense that he can most certainly pull rank on Spock if he even tries to give him a headache. ]
Oh, let me guess, you're also the one of us two who went to medical school, and later specialized on xenomedicine. Got it, that must mean you're perfectly fine.
[ Spock better not try to get up, or else Leonard's pinning his shoulder back down on the bed. Again. ] Quit your whinin'. You're about thirty years too old for that crap. Now make yourself comfortable and let me take care of you.
[ Truth be told, it's not like the Chief of Security usually goes on missions like this, but Sara'd made some excuse to the Captain about needing to stretch her legs after so much time in deep space. At this point, she's fairly sure Kirk sees through both her and Leonard's feeble excuses and explanations, but whether or not the two men have actually spoken about it, she's not sure.
Still, it's not like they get a lot of time to steal away together if they're not cooped up in each other's rooms, and walking hand-in-hand in the fresh air is a nice respite. Even if she's sure he'll inevitably find something to grumble about - especially with the rain looming.
At his question, she flashes him a grin, stopping in her tracks to pull him in closer. ]
You see right through me, Dr. McCoy. You're trapped now.
[ Oh, they've talked about it. Kind of hard to keep that kind of thing from Jim of all people, and besides, it's not like Leonard would. It would be different if Sara wasn't important to him in some way, but... well, at this point it's safe to say this is more than just some casual hookup. He wouldn't keep that kind of thing from his best friend. Besides, Jim can be surprisingly discreet when he wants to be, and Leonard trusts him.
Anyway, at least the rain hasn't reached them yet, so her little tug only makes his smile stretch wider, his free hand moving to rest on her waist. ]
Well, that just sounds terrible. And what are you gonna do with me now you got me?
[ It wouldn't surprise her by any means, knowing how close the Captain and Leonard are. Still, they do their best to keep things discreet to the rest of the crew, even if she's sure the bulk of them knew the moment she had a meltdown in medical when she'd heard he'd been injured.
Still, it's been months since they'd both actually agreed to try this thing for real, and it feels... good. Really good. To have someone know her story - all of it - and still want her anyway.
She beams contently up at him when he draws closer, tiptoeing to slip her arms around his shoulders. ]
Well, that all depends on if you're planning to turn that comm of yours off, too.
[ It's probably a good thing they're both on the same page in regards to privacy, but it's also nice knowing that at this point, Sara isn't particularly upset if others on the crew might know they're together. Leonard likes not having to go out of his way to keep it a secret, frankly.
He raises both eyebrows, then glances down to turn his comm device off. It's fine, if it gets ugly they can just turn them back on. ]
[ The only reason she really keeps up the act these days is to try and keep the security team from giving her shit, mostly because the Captain had told her several times that telling someone to "shut your mouth before I cut your eyes out and feed them to you" isn't exactly Starfleet code.
Grinning she sees him switch the device off, she tiptoes to brush the tip of her nose against his. ]
Almost. [ Tugging him down to meet her, she arches her neck for a kiss, nipping lightly at his lower lip. ]
[ Well, he did kind of see that coming, so he's not too surprised when she pulls him down for that kiss. He's ready enough for it that he's leaning down and meeting her halfway, pressing his lips back to hers, both his hands now framing her waist and pulling her closer to him too.
Maybe it's not the perfect place for a full on make out session, but— well, a little kissing won't harm anyone. Even if they do have a tendency of getting carried away, but Leonard will just have to keep them both in check. ]
[ Sara did have a tendency to pounce on him at inappropriate times, but this one seems a safe enough moment to steal. And even if they've both agreed that this was more than just casually hooking up, God knows they tend to find their adventurous ways of acting like horny teenagers.
She tiptoes again to deepen the kiss, fingertips brushing through his hair as another rumble of thunder rolls in closer. She ignores it mostly to sink into the kiss, even as the patter of rain starts to skitter across the lake towards them. ]
