landing party ( for thecanarylives )
[ He comes to with his head pounding, his vision blurred, and a persistent ringing in his ears. It takes him a while-- a good while, maybe seconds or maybe minutes, to even regain his vision properly, and to take in his surroundings. He's in a shuttle, which is completely wrecked, panels broken and burnt, wires hanging from everywhere, sparks going off and small fires here or there. They're also tilted forward slightly, so he can feel his weight pushing against the belts keeping him strapped to his chair. He looks beyond the window and he sees a lush forest just outside, trees and blue skies as far as the eye can see. It'd be pretty if not for the fact that they've clearly crashed on the planet they were supposed to land on.
Shit. Holy shit, they crashed. How the fuck did they crash? Leonard just wanted to gather some samples from the surface, it didn't even warrant a landing party bigger than two people, how the fuck did they end up like this?
That thought gets his brain into gear. Because he's not alone. He looks over to find Sara passed out, though at least thankfully still strapped to her seat. He lets out a shuddered breath, trying not to panic as he struggles to undo his own safety belt. ]
Sara!! Come on, you piece of shi-- [ His panicked grousing is cut off as his belt comes undone, and he just barely manages to brace himself against the controls rather than slam right into them. Head still spinning, he nevertheless forces himself to stumble towards her, looking her over briefly for possible injuries before he cups her face, trying to wake her up. ] Sara. Hey, can you hear me? Come on, open your eyes...

Head still spinning, he nevertheless forces himself to stumble towards her, looking her over briefly for possible injuries before he cups her face, trying to wake her up. ] Sara. Hey, can you hear me? Come on, open your eyes...

[ He huffs a snort, shaking his head as he treats her injuries carefully. Some of the tools with him allow him to stop the bleeding on her open wounds, and next he covers them with protective gauze, before wrapping her up with strong bandages. He has plenty to last them at least a week, in a worst case scenario. Hopefully it won't get any worse than that. ]
Don't confuse me with our dearest Captain, you bet your ass I'm not plannin' on going anywhere. I'm not some goddamn space cowboy gallivanting through the galaxy.
[ And he's absolutely not going anywhere without her, not unless he absolutely has to. For now, he finishes wrapping up her injuries, then he moves to cut off her dirty, bloodied undershirt, fetching a clean one from the survival kit. It's thicker and has longer sleeves, which will help with conserving her body heat. ]
Alright, this might hurt a little, but you have to put this one on. Let's go slow and make sure we don't make any of your injuries worse, alright? And no playin' hero-- if the pain's anywhere above a five in your scale, you tell me. Got it?
[ He knows she has a higher threshold for pain, so a five would be fairly serious in her case. He pushes the thick sweater down her head first, then he takes her uninjured arm first, calmly guiding it through the respective sleeve. ]
no subject
Hey now, you're the one who insisted on personally pulling samples from the surface, remember? Which, by the way, you should probably do at some point. I'm only crash landing on this planet for you once.
[ She cocks a brow at thick, over-sized sweater he offers her, narrowing her eyes at it and straightening to help him get it over her head. ]
And here I thought you just wanted to cut my shirt off for the view. [ She worms her way through the fabric, maneuvering her head through the opening, then her good arm through the sleeve. She doesn't wince or flinch even as she moves her wrapped arm through the other sleeve, flexing her shoulder just a bit to work out a bit of soreness there. ]

[ He sure as hell won't want to try again. But for now it's probably not a good idea to be leaving the relative safety of the cave, not until at least he's sure that there aren't any natives nearby. That means sitting still, no loud noises and nothing that may call attention to them, such as building a fire, for instance.
Luckily the sun is still up and it's not too cold yet. ]
Sorry, darlin'. But you're not much of a view when you're all banged up like this.
[ He tosses the playful jab at her with a crooked little smile. Not that he means to flirt, because it sounds like a terrible idea given their brief history, but it seems to keep her distracted, so. ]
There. Now-- we've got some more blankets in here. You should try not to fall asleep for the next few hours, just in case, but we should at least make you comfortable. [ He uses one of them to fashion her a makeshift pillow, setting it down on top of the blanket she's sitting on. ]
no subject
[ She quirks a small smile, thinking back to the many, many trainwreck away missions she and the Captain have already racked up. Many of which might've been just a little bit fudged in the final log.
She wrinkles her nose when he jabs at her, though, pulling a frown. ]
Only 'cause you stuck me in an old lady sweater. Jerk.
[ She chuckles, though, sucking in a slow breath to test the pressure of the wrap he's bound around her ribs. Not horribly uncomfortable, all things considered. She settles back against the wall again, waving a hand to dismiss the pillow. ]
I'm plenty comfortable, now will you clean your own scrapes up already? You're an eyesore, all dirty and bloody like that.
no subject
[ Unpleasant though it is to crash on a planet, he's treated her for much worse injuries after away missions, and Jim as well. So yeah, he is well aware of the crazy dangers she usually gets herself into during those missions. ]
Maybe old lady sweaters just do it for me, you don't know.
[ He dismisses the playful insult, shrugging. His eyes roll as she all but orders him to clean himself up, groaning and waving a hand at her. ]
Yeah, yeah, I'm gettin' to it. Give it a rest.
[ Look at him, fetching gauze and antiseptic for himself, cleaning away the dirt and blood from the few scrapes and cuts he's gotten. Nothing he really needs to be worrying about, and he doesn't even bother with bandaging anything, grabbing his dermal regenerator to slowly fix the more superficial wounds that don't need any further treatment. ]
no subject
[ She grins. Sure, she'd been assigned to the Enterprise for less time, but that didn't mean she'd racked up less injuries since she'd joined up.
Cocking a brow at him, she chuckles and lets her head rest back against the stone wall. ]
S'that why you broke it off, Doc? I don't own enough grandma sweaters?
[ Her eyes droop a little and she wills herself to shake off the drowsiness, sitting up and casting her gaze around the dimly lit cave. Eventually, her eyes focus on him, a frowning tugging at her lips as the blurry, doubled vision gives him a strange, slow motion kind of effect.
Well, if there's no alcohol available, at least the concussion is entertainment enough for the time being. ]
no subject
[ Not that it's a competition or anything. Although at the rate they both get themselves into trouble, he does wonder if they realize that. Sure is a good source of headaches for the doctor.
He freezes a little at her next words, eyes flickering to her, only to see the way she struggles to keep her eyes open. He sets the regenerator aside, moving over to her side, bringing the kit closer so he can scan her head again, more thoroughly this time. ]
Hey, Sara. Talk to me, come on. Don't you pass out on me, alright?
no subject
[ Her voice is a low murmur, a light, if not drowsy smile on her lips that falters as her eyes droop again.
Flinching a little when he draws closer, she furrows her brow and waves a hand to swat his scanner away, nose wrinkling. ]
M'fine. Quit- [ She shifts to lean her good shoulder against the wall, eyelids fluttering as she musters enough energy to focus on his features. ]
Just a little tired.
no subject
Alright. I get it, I know you are.
[ He still doesn't feel too sure about letting her sleep, but at this point, what can he do? So he helps her settle into a slightly more comfortable position, finding another blanket to put it over her. ]
You'll need to eat something in a moment. How about a quick nap while I get that ready, alright? I'll wake you up.
[ He'll scan her every two minutes if need be, but he tries to tell himself that the readings are fine, and that she should be alright. ]
no subject
M'not hungry. [ She murmurs, curling up under the blanket and blinking a few times. ]
Where'd we land on that whiskey.
no subject
[ Especially if she's going to fall asleep on him, at least she'll have some food in her, another source of energy to sustain her and help her recover a little better from her injuries. In a few hours he'd look into those again and figure out what he can use of his tools to heal her to the best of his ability. ]
You're gonna have to wait to be back on the ship for that. Sorry, darlin', [ He shrugs at her, only vaguely apologetic. The last thing she needs is getting drunk right now. ]
no subject
[ She musters up a small smile, glancing at him from the corner of her eye and then shutting her eyes a moment as another wave of dizziness grips her. Wrinkling her nose, she reaches for her water bottle and tips her head up to take a few sips. ]
You're less fun on the ground, y'know that? [ she teases, setting the bottle down and resting her head against the blanket. ]
no subject
[ He's sure that's not much of a surprise to her. She's been on enough away missions to know how that goes, and the rations are meant exactly for emergencies such as this one. Good thing they have some, though, because Leonard can't be completely sure that what they'll find around here, flora and fauna both, would be safe to eat. ]
Hardly the time to be havin' fun, don't you think? [ He shoots her a glance, picking up the regenerator again and finishing his work on his own superficial cuts and scrapes. ]
no subject
[ She lets out a slow breath, eyes drooping just slightly again before she narrows her gaze on a spot on the wall and furrows her brow to focus her attention there. It helps ground her vision just a little, at the least, his words echoing in a murmured delay in her head. ]
We're stuck in a cave on a planet with no wifi, Doc. The hell else are we supposed to do with ourselves?
[ With some effort, she shifts her attention to him, watching him curiously a moment. ]
You're more fun than you let on. We both know that.
no subject
[ He shoots her an amused look, though, eyebrow lifted. He understands that sentiment all too well, alas they're not in a position to be picky. ]
Stay quiet, lay low, rest, recover and wait until it's safe to go out. [ He says as he finishes healing the last of his minor injuries, putting his tools back into the medkit. His shirt's fairly dirty too, so he takes it off and replaces it with the other black sweater in the bag. ] Yeah, well, I can be fun when I'm not stranded on a planet I've just crashed on, treatin' my pilot for a concussion and a fractured rib, while we wait for an indeterminate amount of time until someone comes to rescue us. Sorry, just not in a great mood to be havin' fun right now.
no subject
[ She smiles up at him innocently, shifting a little to tug her bag towards her and start digging around for a package of food. It's not all that exciting - Almost like a granola bar mixed with a cookie but with less flavor and texture. She pouts as she unwraps the thing, taking a begrudging bite and a sip of some water to wash the stuff down.
She watches him move around, shrugging her good shoulder and chuckling. ]
As opposed to the regular fantastic and totally not grumpy mood you're usually in, you mean?
no subject
It's an idea. Not sure if a good idea, but toss it at Scotty. Maybe he'll take it as a challenge.
[ Replicators are capable of amazing things, after all. Leonard's not so sure he'd like that, he'd much rather have hot, freshly-baked pizza, preferably from an old-fashioned wood-fired oven. Not that he can afford to be that picky while on board a starship.
With a sigh, he finds himself a ration bar as well, then settles down next to her, back resting against the wall of the cave. It's not too cold yet at least, thankfully, so he doesn't wrap himself in blankets just yet. Soon enough he'll have to build them a decent fire, though. ]
Hey, I'm not always grumpy, but just because I've never been the life of the party that doesn't mean I'm awful company, [ He huffs, further complaining, which... sort of contradicts what he's saying right now. After a moment's silence, though, he adds. ] I'm sorry you're stuck with me down here.
no subject
[ She smirks, shifting over a bit to give his legs room to sprawl out when he settles in next to her. Unraveling some of the blanket around her shoulders, she tosses it over his lap and settles back down, humming a light laugh at his grumbling. ]
Never said you were awful company, Doc. [ The shifting around, however slight, brings with it another bout of dizziness and she rests her head back against the blanket, shutting her eyes tightly a moment to try and re-focus. ]
Stuck? Please. Maybe I just wanted to get you alone again.
no subject
[ Scotty would be intrigued enough by the concept, probably. Even if it probably wouldn't be a particularly popular item. Leonard sure would rather have tasteless rations than some weird crap like that. ]
I know you didn't, [ He mutters, tugging the blanket over his lap and settling in as comfortably as he can. A chuckle pushes past his lips, and he nods. ]
Gee. I'm touched, but if it's all the same to you, next time let's try and skip the whole crash landing.
no subject
[ She hums a chuckle, shifting her head a bit to look up at him. ]
Hey, you're the one who wanted his samples, r'member? Maybe you just wanted to get me alone.
no subject
[ He sighs, resting his head back. ]
Wouldn't go this far to get you alone. Usually I just ask, you know. Besides, Jim was the one who paired you with me.
no subject
[ She rests her cheek on the blanket, letting her eyes droop closed after a moment. ]
Joke's on you. I'm a good time.
no subject
[ He knows what she's thinking, and it's just not a good idea at all. He bites back a smile at her last remark, not glancing at her as he answers. ]
You are, yes. Never said otherwise.
no subject
[ A lazy smile tugs at the corner of her lip, eyes still closed. She can hear the hint of a smile in his voice, though, and she chuckles softly in response. ]
You're not so bad yourself, Doc.
no subject
I wouldn't advise you smoking anything to begin with, much less so plants we barely even know.
