Well, let's say that... my experiences tend to be more with women. My interest too, generally speaking. There have been a few exceptions, but... [ He shrugs. ] So I suppose in that sense, you're special to me.

[ loki grins, resting his chin on his hand. ]

Well, you prefer women, that can be easily arranged.

That's not... [ He pauses, looking at him. ] What do you mean, easily arranged?

I am a shapeshifter. I can be whatever I wish to be.

Well, that's... certainly handy. [ And while Leonard can't help trying to picture what Loki would look like as a woman, he feels compelled to point out. ] But you choose this appearance over others, so it must hold some kind of meaning to you. A preference, if nothing else.

[ a noteworthy pause as loki collects his thoughts. ]

I suppose. This is the form I grew up with, so it is the one most familiar to me. But all my forms are . . . me.

Yes, I get that. But I'm not just interested because of what you look like, and I don't want you to feel like you need to change that for my sake.

[ this seems a bit baffling to loki who has always learned it's better to change to suit others than to hold onto his sense of self. and as such, he's always attempted to do so as a bargain or a "bribe".

Were you worried I would do so?

[ Leonard wouldn't know how to deal with that. He doesn't want anyone to change who they are to suit him, in fact he'd rather butt heads with some asshole than to have them put up an act to just ingratiate themselves to him. He's probably be all the more suspicious of someone like that. ]

Well, you were the one who brought it up.

True, but you can't deny there are benefits involved.

[ still, he inclines his head politely. ]

Regardless, you need not worry about me changing myself solely for your benefit.

The benefits aren't in question. [ Leonard can't even being to imagine the possibilities. ]

[ He lifts an eyebrow in response to the tilt of Loki's head, then downs the rest of his drink. ]

I don't know, nothing really comes to mind. Do people usually demand a lot of you?

[ his expression shifts slightly. ]

I'm not always considered . . . palatable. Too many edges to make for a smooth relationship.

Well, we haven't had any issues so far. Unless you really have been playin' nice, [ He says, partly teasing. ]

And I suppose some have said the same for me. But when it's the people that matter, they stick around regardless.

[ a low snort. ]

Then I suppose I've just been unlucky.

[ Leonard doesn't know really what to say to that. Seems like a sore spot for Loki, so he just rests a hand a little above his wrist and squeezes. ]

[ Leonard snorts against the rim of his glass. ]

Goin' nowhere. Same as the last few years. [ He raises an eyebrow at Loki. ] Yours?

I've been busy the last few years.

I'm surprised a man like yourself hasn't had offers.

I didn't say I didn't get any offers, [ He points out. ] It's just not easy to make the time, I guess.
